New F-250 to have aluminum body too?!?

Of course it doesn't seem too surprising that the F250 (and 350/450?) would follow the F150 in its aluminumization...

This according to the Ford rep at the State Fair of Texas this weekend. He said they are so confident of its strength and durability that they will definitely be following suit with the 250...

Is this even new news? I hadn't heard it before but, then again, I wasn't really looking.

Oh and I got to touch and feel the aluminum body panels. Pushing on them did not give as much flex, it seems to me. It was a nice pickup, the one i looked at had the 2.7 ecoboost.

Aluminum doesn't flex much. It either doesn't yield, or it bends. I think this is a fine thing for Ford to do, probably not for mountain fire crews though.

It's been rumored for a while. People were placing magnets on the the camouflaged test mules months ago. Somewhat surprised they are doing this. The 250 and 350 aren't regulated under the same 54.5 MPG fuel economy standards and the F-150 so there is less of a regulatory reason to do this. Will decrease the profit margin for Ford on these vehicles in the short term and increases prices for us in the long term.

Maybe they are doing what GM and Ram do, and using mostly the same body panels. It would offset retooling costs.

Fords had the same body for the F-150/250/350/450 too until the Super Duty came out in the late 90's.

Tool costs aren't really the big price increase. Its raw material costs mostly. As well as a more difficult manufacturing process.

ehhh, not really. Two separate lines/assembly plants and two totally different vehicles, plus the benefit of risk diversification. The only way it makes sense is for securing a huge bulk purchase of aluminum, be even then the scale that the F-150 offer alone would get you a pretty good deal.
